  Professor Miles was awarded a 2011 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship for her work on African American and Native American history. She is the founder of ECO Girls, an environmental and cultural organization for girls in urban Southeast Michigan. Professor Miles is the current Chair of the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies (DAAS) and a former Director of AC Native American Studies.
