    Lyons is a 2014 recipient of the prestigious Henry Russel Award for his demonstrated extraordinary record of accomplishment in scholarly research and creativity, and his excellent record of contribution as a teacher.

    Professor Lyons (Leech Lake Ojibwe) arrived at the University of Michigan in 2011 after teaching English for several years at Syracuse University and Leech Lake Tribal College. He holds a joint appointment in the departments of American Culture and English Language and Literature. He is the author of numerous articles on Native American studies, and of X-Marks: Native Signatures of Assent (University of Minnesota Press, 2010), which was awarded the Beatrice Medicine Award for Scholarship in Native American Studies in 2011.
