Study Abroad and American Culture
Have you ever wondered what American Culture looks like from another country's perspective? One of the best ways to learn more about yourself and the world around you is to live overseas! As a U-M student, you have free access to many of the best resources available for arranging studies, work, internships, and volunteering overseas.
Study abroad. With careful planning, nearly every student can fit study abroad into a four-year undergraduate program. Offering more than 80 programs in 41 countries, the Office of International Programs, www.umich.edu/~iinet/oip, is the best place to start your journey. General study abroad walk-in advising is offered 2 to 4 p.m. every Monday through Thursday in G513 Michigan Union. Looking for something more short-term? Check out U-M’s Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates Program at www.gieu.umich.edu.
Want to take classes overseas that will count toward your American Culture requirements? Make an appointment with an advisor to discuss your options. (Please note: American Culture does not typically offer advising over the summer months. If you need an appointment during this time, please e-mail the undergraduate assistant.)
Work, intern, or volunteer abroad. The Overseas Opportunities Office is the university’s clearinghouse for information about the countless programs available to anyone who wants to experience life in another country. Whether you’re looking for an unforgettable summer experience or a postgraduation adventure, this is the place to start your research.
