Going Abroad

This interactive session addresses key points pre-health students should consider when contemplating going abroad to study, volunteer, or work.  Did you know that medical schools and dental schools have published guidelines for this?

Pre-health 101 is a broad introduction to the basic information needed to begin preparing for ANY of the health care professions commonly chosen by U-M students.  It includes discussion of courses, activities, and more.  Identical to the Pre-health 101 sessions offered September 17 and October 21.

Choosing the Right Pre-health Profession

Are you interested in more than one profession?  Can you not decide whether becoming a doctor or dentist is right for you? Becoming a Physician Assistant or Physician? Etc.?  This interactive session will help you find good answers to the right questions, to begin figuring this out.

Letters of Evaluation and the 15 Core Competencies

This interactive session helps you understand the steps you can take to develop good relationships with mentors, instructors, supervisors and others as part of the process of getting good letters of evaluation for health professions programs (e.g. medical, dental, pharmacy, etc. schools).  This workshop will also helps you understand how letter content can relate to critically important personal competencies, such as capacity for improvement and communication skills.

Choosing Activities that Matter

Your activities should be more than a list on your résumé.  They should be a product of your attempts to explore new ideas, to challenge yourself by trying to understand the world and others’ lives from a new perspective, and to really make sure that you are taking the right step in trying to become a health care professional.  This interactive session will help you choose activities that actually do that.

The LSA Late Drop Deadline is rapidly approaching.  Are you struggling to decide whether you should stay in a class or take a W on your transcript?  Do you know how medical (and other health professions schools) view a W versus a bad grade?  This interactive session will present you with the key factors you should consider in order to position you to make the best possible decision you can.

This interactive session helps you consider whether a gap year (or two) is the right choice for you.  It will also help you understand how admissions committees view longer and shorter preparation.  It will also present you with a range of possible options for filling that gap year.
