F13 Late Drop Deadline is Nov. 8

October 30, 2013

The Fall 2013 Late Drop Deadline is November 8, 2013.  If you are considering withdrawing from a course it is important to talk to your instructor or GSI about how you are doing in the class.  It would also be a good idea to talk to your Academic Advisor to consider all of your options before you make a decision.  If you decide to drop a course you must fill out a Late Drop Form and make sure you submit it no later than 4:00 p.m. November 8, 2013.  The Late Drop Form is also available online.

Registration for Winter 2014

Registration for Winter 2014 will take place between Monday, November 25, 2013 and Wednesday, December 11, 2013.  For most of you, this will be the first time that you are registering for classes on your own.  If you would like some assistance with the Backpacking and Registration process, we will be providing a series of workshops where you will be able to ask questions and get advice.  These workshops are on a drop-in basis and you don’t need an appointment.

ACADEMIC ADVISING APPOINTMENTS +

The Academic Advising Office (1255 Angell Hall) gets very busy this time of year.  We very much encourage you to plan ahead and make an advising appointment – but don’t do it too soon.  We suggest that First Year Students schedule an appointment during the weeks of Dec 2 - Dec 9, 2013.  You can schedule an appointment by calling (734) 764-0332.

The Winter 2014 Online Course Guide goes live on Friday, November 1, 2013.  The main advantage of the Online Course Guide is that it has detailed descriptions of classes and in some cases lists course assignments and required readings.  After the Online Course Guide is released, start browsing for courses that you are interested in.

Registration for Winter 2014 will begin on November 25 and end on December 11, 2013 +

Note: Registration Appointment Times are issued according to the number of credits you have completed towards graduation.  Students are assigned a range of dates based on the number of credits they have, but within that range of dates, times are generated randomly.  Also your Registration Appointment Time is not an individual meeting with your Academic Advisor.

Winter 2014 Registration timeline:

  1. November 1: LSA Course Guide goes live (for Winter, Spring, and
Summer 2014). Use it to start browsing courses.

    http://www.lsa.umich.edu/cg/
  2. November 13: Backpacking in Wolverine Access goes live, which
    means two things:
    1. you can start placing courses in your backpack, and
    2. you can see your specific “registration appointment" under Student Business.

What is your “registration appointment”? The earliest time you can
register for Winter 2014 classes (you will be able to register for
spring/summer courses in April when you register for Fall 2014
courses). It is NOT an actual in-person appointment with your advisor.
You will be able to register online from any computer.
  3. Beginning November 25: Registration begins, starting with
seniors. It will continue through the first two weeks of December.
Registration appointments are based on a student’s total number of
credits. First-year student appointments will be in mid December.
  4. In the meantime: October is a great time to talk with your
advisor about changing plans or new ideas for exploration. Make an
appointment by calling (734) 764-0332 or stopping by 1255 Angell Hall. Otherwise,
first-year students are encouraged to see an advisor in early December
before their registration times. Because registration is an extremely
busy time, if you know you’d like a more in-depth discussion with your
advisor, we strongly recommend you schedule an October appointment as
    well.
