Tyrone received his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Maryland in 2009. He earned his M.A. in American Studies from the University of New Mexico. His B.A. in English and Philosophy is also from the University of New Mexico. Tyrone served three years as the program coordinator for the Howard Peter Rawlings Undergraduate Leadership Fellows Program in the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership at the University of Maryland. He also served as a project assistant at the Annie E. Casey Foundation Leadership in Action Program. While at Maryland, Tyrone was an instructor in the Department of American Studies, a college study skills instructor in the Summer Transition Program, a mentor in the Black Male Initiative Program, and Inter-Group Dialogue co-facilitator. While at New Mexico, Tyrone was an instructor and advisor in their College Enrichment Program and an AmeriCorps worker in the summer literacy program. Tyrone also spent a year as a high school teacher in Pennsylvania.
