Born and raised in Texas, Denise earned her Ph.D. from Boston University in Anthropology with an emphasis on primate behavior and anatomy. She also has an M.A. in Biology from Boston University (focusing on ecology and evolutionary biology) and a B.A. in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin (concentrating on cellular and molecular biology). She has lectured at UM since 2006, first in Anthropology and later in Geological Sciences, and has been a part-time advisor for the Honors Program and at the Newnan Advising Center since 2008. An appreciation of the connections that exist across disciplines has influenced her research, teaching and advising. She is particularly intrigued by past and present interactions between scientific discovery and cultural change. An interest in more direct interaction with students has inspired her move to full time advising.
