• About

  A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Patrick is a trained visual artist and cultural historian with an M.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia and another in American Culture here at the U.  He joined the Newnan Center after teaching in the Ethnic Studies Department at Bowling Green State University.  Before that, he spent several years working as a writer and English instructor in Switzerland.

  Patrick’s current research explores African-American athletic performers’ ambivalent role as US cultural ambassadors during the early years of the Cold War.  He is currently completing a PhD dissertation on the subject in the Program in American Culture.  In his spare time Patrick is a visual artist, music lover and an avid fan of track & field.  He is also the favorite chauffeur, barber and wrestling opponent of his son Julius.
