Applying for Graduation

In order to be evaluated for graduation, every student must have an official academic degree audit. This audit informs students what degree requirements they have already fulfilled, and those that still need to be completed.  We recommend students have their audit done before registering for their last semester of classes in order to make sure they are registering for the appropriate courses.  To receive an audit, students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (BS-Chem), must complete the following:

  1. Apply for graduation by logging onto Wolverine Access. Go to Student Business, click on "Apply for Graduation," and follow the prompts. Make sure to verify your permanent address and specify how you want your name to appear on your diploma.
  2. Have a release submitted by your department advisor for every major and minor you have declared. Your advisor will enter the release into your student file.

Students pursuing a Bachelor in General Studies (BGS) must fill out a form declaring BGS in the LSA Newnan Academic Advising Center before applying for graduation on Wolverine Access, per instructions above (1) and releases are not needed.

Students enrolled in the Residential College receive their audit from the Residential College. Students who are writing an Honors Thesis in any of their majors receive their audits from the Honors Program. (If you are in either of these programs but no longer want to be, you must fill out paperwork with that program to officially exit.) All other students receive their audits from the LSA Academic Auditors' Office.

Audits are completed after the student has applied for graduation and all releases have been submitted.  The audit letter is then e-mailed to students' uniqname@umich.edu account within two weeks.  During peak times, however, it may take longer. It is important to read your audit carefully because it contains the information that will be used to clear you for graduation. To see the details of what the auditors will be reviewing, go to the LSA Requirement Checklist. If you have questions call, e-mail, or visit your auditing department.
