Res-Hall⁄Offsite Advising
In conjunction with University Housing, the Newnan LSA Academic Advising Center maintains an extensive program of professional and peer advising services in the residence halls. In most undergraduate residence halls, a general academic advisor from the Advising Center staff maintains regularly scheduled office hours in the building throughout Fall and Winter terms. These advisors meet with students on a walk-in basis and are able to provide the same level of information and service as a student would receive in the Advising Center itself.
In addition to weekly office hours with a professional advisor, the program also includes an Academic Peer Advisor (APA) who lives in the residence hall. The APA is an experienced undergraduate or graduate student who has been trained to provide information on College policies, procedures, and issues of course planning and academic difficulties. They too hold regular office hours as well as being on-site for consultations throughout the community.
The Academic Advisor and the APA together provide a number of programs and workshops throughout the academic year. Typical subjects include sessions on academic planning, study skills, test taking, strategies for selecting courses, reviews of basic degree requirements, etc.
