Give to LSA

How can I make a difference to LSA?

The LSA Fund: You may choose to designate your gift to student, faculty, or program support as you wish. With nearly 60% of our students graduating in debt and 36% receiving financial assistance, there is a tremendous need for scholarships and aid. In order to attract and retain the best faculty, money is needed for salaries, labs, and research support. Because state appropriations do not fully fund the academic program, support is necessary to maintain the level of academic excellence for which LSA is known, and to introduce innovative initiatives in LSA's 70 departments.

Department Strategic Funds: Individual LSA departments have ongoing need to fund opportunities for non-traditional undergraduate programs, for graduate student stipends, for research funding, and for countless other needs critical to LSA's legacy of excellence in both teaching and research.

What are some of the efforts the LSA Fund supports?

Student support (Need-Based or Merit-Based): The LSA Fund provides undergraduate and graduate scholarships and financial aid, study abroad assistance, and funding for the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP).

Emergency Student Aid Fund: In these trying economic times, the College has seen an increase in the need for student financial aid to help allow current students to stay in school. This fund helps a student whose parent has lost his or her job cover the cost of tuition, or relieves the burden of a student forced to choose between buying books or returning home for a family emergency.

Faculty support: The LSA Fund helps the Dean recruit and retain a world-class faculty by offering competitive benefit packages; most recently critical hires have been made in the Political Science, History, Art History, Classical Studies, and Asian Languages and Cultures departments. Laboratory facilities have been upgraded in the Chemistry building, endowed chairs and professorships have been established in Communication Studies and Asian Languages and Cultures, research projects have been underwritten in the Geology, Physics, American Culture, History and Mathematics departments, and new teaching initiatives have been made possible by the Fund. Program support: The LSA Fund supports theme-semester programs, lecture and film series, museum exhibits, student run conferences, interdisciplinary courses, technology upgrades, and community service projects to foster a greater sense of intellectual community and discovery within the College. Last year, major program support went to the Center of Theoretical Physics, the Global Ethnic Literatures Program, the Festival of New Works, and the Symposium in International Terrorism.
