All computer support work will be done in the West Hall building or at the LSA CSG shop. However, Anthropology employees may bring in a personally owned computer for advice related to network connectivity and security issues ONLY, to be worked on as time becomes available. University owned computers will be worked on first, even if they come in after a personally owned computer. Bringing in a personally owned computer is at your own risk; the Department is NOT responsible for any loss of data or loss or breakage of equipment. Always make sure your data is backed up before having any computer work done!
Department Computing Resources
Graduate Student Areas
There are four computers in room 236 B; GSIs have priority use of these computers, but any graduate student may get a key to this room and use these computers.
There is one computer in room 236 that is designated for any graduate student’s use.
The printer in room 236 is part of the ITCS program – it is not owned by the Department. Any printing done on that printer is at the student’s expense; the resulting charge will go directly to the student’s account.
There are two computers in room 2E02; that room is designated for head GSIs and GSI mentors. For cost reasons, there is only one personal-type printer in that room, intended for printing relevant to the roles of GSI, head GSI, or GSI mentor.
Main Office
There is one computer in the hall across from the secondary front desk (right next to the main entrance). This computer is open for use by anyone with a UM login. Users canot print from this computer.
There is one computer in the hall outside of the graduate student office area. This computer is for GSI instructional use only. It prints to the printer just down the ramp.
There is one computer in the hall outside of the Chair’s area. It is our work-study student’s workstation and is for office staff use only.
Computers at any regular staff member’s desk are restricted to that person’s (or their temporary replacement’s) use.
Second Floor Office
There is one computer in room 224. It is on loan from LSA IT for our computer support person’s use. The printer/copier in room 224 is a shared machine. Any faculty member can be networked to use it.
