Administratively, the Department of Anthropology is structured around these core areas: General Support (facilities, supplies, materials), Instructional and Student Services (graduate and undergraduate), Financial (financial operations and research), Faculty Services (tenured and tenure track faculty, lecturer and visitor resources), and Events & Development (lectures, receptions, conferences, alumni outreach, donations...).

Staff responsibilites do overlap in some of these core areas, but generally these staff positions cover the following:

The Office Services Coordinator handles the main departmental phone, copying, inventory and ordering of general office supplies, requests to LSA computer services, custodial services and zone maintenance, assists students with permissions (overrides). Ayne Reineke, 764-7274, aynreine@umich.edu.

The Undergraduate Education Coordinator is responsible for scheduling academic classes and providing staff support for the departmental curriculum committee. She advises undergraduate students on concentration matters and works closely with the Student Advisor. She handles new/revised course submissions, supplemental grade reports, and department room scheduling. Melinda Nelson, 764-2321, mmonro@umich.edu.

The Student Advisor is a GSSA position designed to provide current content advising for our undergraduate students, as well as basic concentration advising. The Student Advisor will provide support for the undergraduate "Anthro Club" and also helps to coordinate the annual undergraduate reception. The Student Administration Assistant coordinates the course evaluation process, arranges audio-visual equipment, prints transcripts, processes permissions, completes the GSI section and office hours list each term, provides regular back-up for the front desk, assists with copying, mail distribution and publishes the department newsletter. The Graduate Coordinator is the head of our student services team and is in charge of our graduate student area. Any questions on GSIs, fellowships, pre-lims, defenses, etc., and all graduate student questions, go to the Graduate Coordinator. Laurie Marx, 764-7275, lmarx@umich.edu

The Admissions Coordinator updates all graduate application materials, receives requests for application materials, handles the admissions process, and supports graduate student events such as the annual new student reception and Recruitment Weekend. This position updates the student directory and the student support handbook, and works with the Graduate Coordinator on GSI and other grad student issues. The Department Accountant monitors and reconciles the majority of our departmental and faculty accounts and handles all accounting and purchasing matters. This position also processes grant proposals, contracts, and payments of all kinds (Form G, purchase orders, travel advances and reimbursements, etc.). Sarah Hallum, 936-7946, shallum@umich.edu.

The Executive Secretary manages the Chair's calender and the department calendar, handles departmental events, development and faculty meetings. This position is responsible for faculty support issues such as coordinating faculty promotions, faculty position requests and searches, the faculty merit program and faculty leaves/sabbaticals, lecturer and adjunct renewals and reviews, as well as temporary staff hiring and payroll and coodrinating maintenance of the departmental website. The Department Administrator handles all questions on personnel, major facilities and equipment issues, faculty payroll, endowments, departmental equipment funds, security, and departmental Executive Committee agenda items, and serves as back-up for all staff members, as needed.
