Emergency Procedures

Evacuation –

If the building must be evacuated, available staff will:

  1. call the 4th floor classroom #418 (see front desk in main office for number) and inform the instructor that class is dismissed and all students, faculty, and staff should leave the building using the nearest stairs.

Ask if anyone is handicapped or requires special assistance.

Have whoever answers the classroom phone knock on office and lab next to classroom, and on lab across the hall, to relay message.

  1. call the 2nd floor grad center room #236, phone # 615-0538, and inform whoever answers of situation as described above. Have that person notify rest of 236 suite and classroom #242.

  1. take stairs up to 2nd floor and notify classroom #238A, linguistic wing, faculty office in center wing, e.g. rooms 218 – 231

  1. take stairs up to 2nd floor and notify library, seminar rooms 210 & 209

  1. take stairs up to 2nd floor and notify faculty in southwest wing (over administrative offices)

When possible, when one person has been notified, enlist that person’s assistance in notifying others in the general area.

Meeting place –

The loading dock driveway on South University Street is the official departmental meeting space. In the event of evacuation, please go to that area to check in and for additional instructions.

Tornado –

Following a call-out as itemized above, all should go to the lowest interior area without windows. From the north side of the arch, that would be the interior corridor by the Marine Hydraulics Lab; from the south side of the arch, go to the first floor copy room, kitchen, or interior hallway by the Anthropology administrative wing.
