The linguistic anthropology graduate students and faculty at the University of
Michigan would like to formally welcome our colleagues at the University of
Chicago to the third annual Michicagaon conference. We invite papers, addressed
to the titular theme, from graduate students at any level. (Creative orientation
to the theme is encouraged!) What are politics? What are poetics? How might they
intersect in realtime linguistic practice? Presentation options include 20
minutes (seminar papers, project proposals,
and extended research projects) and poster presentations following AAA
guidelines. We also invite graduate student volunteers to moderate post-panel
discussions.
Building upon the success of the previous two conferences, the aim of this
year's meeting is to provide a forum for the introduction of new and evolving
projects and their researchers. In the spirit of past years, we strive to create
an environment that sparks innovative ideas and facilitates free intellectual
exchange among graduate students and faculty from both institutions. We are
attempting to create a space both to
advance the questions of the discipline and to break new ground.
Graduate students, please provide your contact information, the proposed title
of your paper/poster, and please identify the presentation option for which you
are submitting. Abstracts of no more than 250 words are due by Friday, 13 April
2001. All submissions and requests to moderate should be sent by electronic mail
to michicagoan01@umich.edu.
