Doctoral Candidate in Anthropology
My doctoral research focuses on how Christian churches in the Philippines define and organize themselves in the context of an increasing plurality of Christian groups. I am currently conducting two years of ethnographic fieldwork in the region of Mindoro, where I am exploring how churches institutionally respond to the changes in Christian practice brought about a denominational splintering. In particular, I am interested in how religious differences and similarities are socially framed within a shared Christian setting.
Academic/research interests: Philippines, Christianity, semiotics, institutional form.
