Research Interests Youngju Ryu specializes in modern Korean literature. Her areas of research include aesthetics of dissidence, cultures of authoritarianism, and philosophies of reconciliation in twentieth-century Korea. She is finishing her first book on the role of writers' collectives in the political transformation of South Korea in the second half of twentieth century.
