Katie decided that university life might be a good idea after spending a great deal of time in Lijiang (in southwest China), and getting to know a number of local researchers there. Their work, mostly to do with local languages and religions, was fascinating; she decided to pursue something similar. Several years later, Katie is studying modern Chinese literature with a focus on the genre of minority literature and an enduring commitment to the artistic and religious worlds of southwest China.
