About Nancy Florida

Professor Florida teaches courses on the literatures and cultures of island Southeast Asia, advanced levels of Indonesian language, and courses on the comparative and cultural studies of Asia.  Her research concerns Indonesian literature, history, and culture with a focus on Javanese court literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.  Her books include Writing the Past, Inscribing the Future: History as Prophecy in Colonial Java and Javanese Literature in Surakarta Manuscripts, Volumes I and II.
