Professor Zwicker specializes in the literature and cultural history of early-modern and modern Japan with research interests in print culture and the history of the book in the late Edo and Meiji periods. His Practices of the Sentimental Imagination: Melodrama, the Novel, and the Social Imaginary in Nineteenth-Century Japan is forthcoming from the Harvard Asia Center and he is currently working on a book titled Stage and Spectacle in an Age of Print: Drama and Cultural Consumption in Nineteenth-Century Edo.
