About Joi Barrios

Dr. Barrios teaches all levels of Filipino language while on leave as Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines (UP).  Her research interests are Philippine literature, Asian American theater, protest literature, and women’s literature.  Among her books are:  Savage Stage:  Plays By Ma-Yi Theater Company, which she edited, 2006; From the Theater Wings: Grounding and Flight of Women Playwrights  (Mula sa mga Pakpak ng Entablado:  Pagyapak at Paglipad ng Kababaihang Mandudula) (UP Press), 2005; and the poetry collections,  To Be a Woman is to Live at a Time of War, 1990, and Sweetened Fruit and Other Love Poems 1998.
