Placement exams are for University of Michigan students who are planning on furthering their language education or want to test out of a language requirement. A valid UM ID card is required to be shown at the time of the test.
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures does not give placement exams during summer orientation.
* Chinese, unlike all of our other language programs, has a different test for judging placement and judging proficiency. If you want to take further Chinese language classes, choose the placement exam. If you want to test out of a language requirement, you must take a proficiency exam.
