Supermassive black hole seeds
Amy Reines specializes in searching for and studying massive black holes in dwarf galaxies, which is currently our best observational probe of the origin of supermassive black hole “seeds.” Reines takes a multiwavelength approach in her research, utilizing observations from HST, Chandra, ALMA and the VLA, and also makes use of large surveys including the SDSS. Ultimately, she aims to place essential observational constraints on the masses, host galaxies and formation path of seed black holes.
