Shannon Murphy provides instructional, facilities, and outreach support to the Astronomy Department. She supports the department's website and manages its social media presence and astronomy outreach program. She curates teaching materials, helping students and faculty with the Mastering Astronomy homework system and CTools – the university’s instructional website-development resource. She’s the point person for the Angell Hall Observatory and Planetarium, where she maintains equipment, coordinates the schedule, develops activities, and trains student-operators. She also serves as the departmental liaison to the Detroit Observatory, where she coordinates the viewing schedule, supports training and visits, and shares her knowledge of astronomy and telescopes at viewing nights.
Murphy holds a BS in astronomy and physics from U-M and an MS in physics from Eastern Michigan University.
