A number of partial merit scholarships will be offered to seven writers who are registered for the 2008 Bear River Writers Conference.  The awards are provided through a generous donation from Meijer, Incorporated and from another anonymous donor.

A NEW DEVELOPMENT FOR 2008

Additional merit scholarships will be awarded members of Michigan Writers, Inc. who register for the 2008 Bear River Writers' Conference.  Depending on the number of qualified applicants who register from Michigan Writers, Inc, these merit awards will range from partial to full tuition. Please note on your registration form in bold letters that you are a member of Michigan Writers, Inc. to qualify.  (See the steps for applying below.) Awards are made to Bear River registrants on the basis of the merit of the applicant’s work. To apply, please submit the registration form along with the nonrefundable $150.00 deposit. In addition, include a sample of your work in one genre.

Applicants should submit a manuscript for consideration by our scholarship review board: up to 10 pages of fiction or nonfiction, or up to 8 pages of poetry. Prose manuscripts must be double-spaced.

  • The applicant's name and a page number should appear on each sheet of the manuscript.
  • Include a short synopsis if your manuscript is excerpted from a longer project.
  • Please send your strongest unpublished work.
  • Please do not send newspaper journalism or academic writing.
  • Due to the volume of applications received, we are unable to return submitted materials.
  • We Do Not accept submissions via fax and e-mail.
