Scholarships May 28-June 1, 2009 Scholarship information for 2010 will be available by January 1, 2010. If you have questions before then, please email us at beariver@umich.edu.
A limited number of scholarships will be offered to writers who plan to attend the 2009 Bear River Writers Conference. The amount of the awards will be made at the discretion of the Scholarship Board.
Bear River scholarships are provided through a generous donation from Meijer, Incorporated. Additional merit scholarships funded by an anonymous donor will be awarded members of Michigan Writers, Inc. who register for the 2009 Bear River Writers' Conference. Awards are made to Bear River registrants on the basis of the merit of the applicant’s work. To apply, please submit the registration form along with the nonrefundable $150.00 deposit. Your deposit can be held on request but workshops and lodging will be assigned only after a deposit has been processed.
Applicants should submit a manuscript for consideration by our scholarship review board: up to 10 pages of fiction or nonfiction, or up to 8 pages of poetry. Prose manuscripts must be double-spaced.
- The applicant's name and a page number should appear on each sheet of the manuscript.
- Include a short synopsis if your manuscript is excerpted from a longer project.
- Please send your strongest unpublished work.
- Please do not send newspaper journalism or academic writing.
- Due to the volume of applications received, we are unable to return submitted materials.
- We Do Not accept submissions via fax and e-mail.
