Plant Biology Academic Minor
The academic minor in Plant Biology is not recommended for students interested in graduate work in the biological sciences.
Prerequisites to the Academic Minor. BIO (171, 172/174 and 173); or BIO (195 and 173); or BIOLOGY (162 or 163 or AP credit for BIO 162).
Academic Minor program. A Minimum of 15 credits* in EEB, MCDB, or BIO at the 200-level or above if the student elected BIO (171, 172/174 and 173), or BIO (195 and 173). A minimum of 17 credits if the student elected BIO (162, or 163, or has AP credit for BIO 162).

1. Core courses in ecology, evolution, biochemistry, and genetics. Choose two courses from the following:
(a) BIO 281, or EEB 381 at the University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS)
(b) BIO 390
(c) BIO 305
(d) BIOLOGY 310 or 311 (Biochemistry)
2. Select one plant biology core course from the following list BIO 255*; 230*; MCDB 321 (* indicates a lab course or course including a lab)
3. Select additional plant biology minor electives from the following list of courses encompassing plant ecology, biodiversity, evolution, structure and development, and physiology, to bring your credit hours to at least 15 (or 17-see above). At least one course must be a 300-or 400- level course. At least one lab course or course including a lab must be included (* indicates lab course or course including a lab):
BIO 255*; 282*, 230*; EEB 355*, 420, 459*, 463*; MCDB 321, 322*, 406, 413*, 430
Exclusions: An academic minor in Plant Biology is not open to students with a concentration in Biology, General Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Microbiology, Neuroscience or Biochemistry, nor to students electing an academic minor in Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Studies, or Global Change.
