Concentration Advising
Students who are interested in any of the Program in Biology concentrations or the academic minors should consult an LSA general advisor during their freshman year and are encouraged to meet with a concentration advisor early in their academic career. It is not necessary to complete every prerequisite before declaring a concentration in biology.
Waitlist Policy
Visit the policies page for more information about the waitlist policy.
Advising Appointments
To schedule an advising appointment, please visit the Biology online scheduling site. U-M login is required.
Appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes; the duration of the appointment will depend upon what the student wishes to discuss. Students may discuss any aspect of their academic careers.
Appointments are scheduled two days in advance in order to obtain and prepare the student's advising file. This includes filling out a concentration check sheet for every student who has an appointment.
NOTE: Please be advised that the first three weeks and the last three weeks of fall and winter terms are the busiest times for advising in the Program in Biology. During this time it may take one or two weeks to get an appointment, so plan ahead.
Walk-in Advising
Some "walk-in" advising is available for all concentrations and minors administered by the Program in Biology. "Walk-in" advising is meant for quick questions regarding class scheduling, investigation of concentrations, etc. Students who wish to declare their concentration or minor, fill out a concentration release form, etc., should make a formal advising appointment with a concentration advisor.
