Getting on the Wired Network

Personal Machines: send an email to with the MAC address of your network card:


XP: Start > Run > cmd

Vista/7: Start > cmd

Type ipconfig /all

Send the entry for physical address for the Ethernet Adapter


System Preferences > Network > Ethernet > Advanced > Ethernet

Send the entry for Ethernet ID



From a terminal type: /sbin/ifconfig

Send the HWAddr from the primary Ethernet Adapter



Lab/Instrument Computers (3020, 4035)

Use your username and password to log in. Older equipment may not have this requirement.

Print & Copy


There are public printers you can use for small jobs.  Please do not print out anything large.  The printer models with their addresses are as follows:

Ricoh Aficio C411DN:


There is a Konica/Minolta BizHub 600 that you can use to Copy, and Scan to Email.  Directions are posted on the copier.  You'll need to get a copier access code from your lab or from the main office.

File Services

You can access over 10TB of free file storage for scientific data (no music/video collections please) from the wired network.  To access the department file server:


Map network drive



From Finder: Go > Connect to Server


Linux (assuming gnome)

Places > Connect to Server

Type: Windows Server
