The CAAS Advising Center (4649 Haven Hall) is staffed with faculty and graduate students eager to provide academic advising on the CAAS curriculum for any student interested in these fields of study, whether pursuing a concentration, an academic minor, or one course. Call (734) 615-7315 or drop by during the posted hours. The CAAS Advising Center also sponsors final exam study breaks, informational meetings on graduate study, and other such events.

Afroamerican and African Studies departmental information

The Center for Afroamerican and African Studies (CAAS) provides students an opportunity to examine the histories, social organizations, cultures, and arts of people of African descent, particularly those of Africa, the United States, and the Caribbean

Afroamerican and African Studies concentration

The CAAS curriculum is centered on the idea of the African Diaspora so that students can explore the contrasting cultures of African-descended people around the globe. In addition, students will specialize in one geographic area of the Diaspora.

Afroamerican and African Studies Academic Minor

Students can use a CAAS academic minor to supplement and make more coherent their understanding of the knowledge in a traditional discipline.
