Advising Students concentrating in the history of art are required to discuss their program with a departmental concentration advisor at least once a year, and are strongly urged to do so at least once every Fall/Winter Term. These advising appointments are scheduled through the Student Services Office office (50 Tappan Hall). However, progress toward the satisfaction of the many and varied LS&A distribution requirements should be monitored by an LS&A academic advisor (1255 Angell Hall). While every effort is made to apprise students of the various Departmental and College regulations and to monitor student progress, the ultimate responsibility for assuring that all requirements are met rests with the student. An academic minor in History of Art is developed in consultation with an undergraduate advisor in History of Art. Appointments are scheduled through the Student Services office (50 Tappan Hall).

The program is recognized as one of the best and most diverse in the country. Our program's main areas of historical focus are the modern & contemporary, the medieval & early modern in both Asia and Europe, & the ancient world.
History of Art concentration
Students of art history become conversant with the world's cultures and develop skills in visual analysis in order to understand how images, objects, and built environments communicate. They employ a broad selection of interpretive methodologies.
History of Art Academic Minor
Offers an introduction to the discipline’s approach to humanistic study of the things that cultures around the world have made, looked at, and endowed with meaning.
