Graduate Certification
Basic Requirements
Applicants should be students in good standing in one of the University of Michigan’s terminal graduate degree programs (either a terminal Master’s or doctoral program), with at least a 3.0 GPA. Each program requires 15 credit hours: according to Rackham regulations, a maximum of seven out of the total credits required toward the graduate degree may be double-counted toward one of the GCPs. GCP Requirements:
• a pro-seminar
• a capstone research/writing course, usually done as an independent study
• a variety of elective courses, one of which must fall outside the student’s primary discipline
Lists of eligible electives are maintained by the Program Coordinators however students may petition to have courses added to the list.
Admission
Admission to the GCPs occur on a rolling basis. Students seeking admission must complete and submit the application form, as well as:
Graduate Certificate Program Application Form
• a letter of application (approximately 300–600 words) explaining your interest in the
Graduate Certificate Program and how the program would augment your degree work
• a photocopy of your most recent U-M transcript or undergraduate transcript
• a letter of recommendation from your faculty advisor
• a list of proposed courses that will fulfill the program requirements
