Credit Exclusions: Credit is granted for a combined total of 12 credits elected in introductory biology.
Advisory Prerequisites: Only first-year students, including those with sophomore standing, may pre-register for First-Year Seminars. All others need permission of instructor.
BS: This course counts toward the 60 credits of math/science required for a Bachelor of Science degree.
Repeatability: May not be repeated for credit.

This course will start with the biological underpinnings of biotechnology and then examine its social and economic consequences. The goal is to allow the non-scientist to make informed judgments on issues such as genetic engineering, cloning, stem sell research, and genetically modified organisms.
