This is an introduction to the Urdu Language and the Nastaliq script. Urdu shares its grammar with Hindi but differs in vocabulary and script. It is one of the major languages of South Asia. The course concentrates on developing skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension. There will be a special focus on learning the script and basic grammar in this academic term. Grading will be based on attendance, class participation, written homework assignments, dictations, and quizzes/tests. No prior knowledge of Urdu is expected.
