Second-Year Portuguese is designed to expand the work done in PORTUG 101/102. Our goal is improve students' understanding, speaking, reading and writing skills, while furthering their insight into the literature and culture of the Brazilian people.

Classroom work involves group activities, an intensive grammar review - the study of finer points of Portuguese grammar as made necessary from daily observation of students' writing and speaking performances — presentation of cultural projects, discussion of short stories, 'crtnicas', texts, and videos.

Homework involves completing daily exercises, studying grammar, writing guided essays, preparing for oral exams taken in the office, for cultural projects presented in class, and researching on the Internet.

Grading is based on quizzes, a midterm, oral exam, a cultural project, class attendance and participation, essays, Internet research and a final exam.
