This course is a continuation of ASIANLAN 201 (offered in Fall). The goals of ASIANLAN 202 are to help students
- achieve high-intermediate listening and speaking proficiency;
- achieve a solid reading level with the roughly 400 new vocabulary entries introduced over eight lessons; and
- learn to express themselves clearly in writing on a variety of covered topics using optimal grammar patterns and vocabulary.
These goals are approached through interactive lectures, in-class exercises, oral presentations, regular quizzes/tests, and out-of-class assignments, collectively covering all four proficiency areas (listening, speaking, reading, writing). The text for the course is Integrated Chinese (Level Two), 2ND EDITION—Textbook and Workbook (Lessons 9-15, 17).
Students who are native or near-native Mandarin Chinese speakers are not eligible for this course; they should enroll in ASIANLAN 204, Reading and Writing Chinese II (the intermediate "heritage track" course presuming solid oral/aural skills and offered in Winter). Students wishing to focus on speaking/listening skills should consider ASIANLAN 306 Advanced Spoken Chinese II, a conversation course typically offered in Winter.
