Content: This course will analyze a variety of interesting paradoxical results seen in math and economics. In many cases, basic human intuition dictates we behave one way, while the theories of math and economics dictate we behave another. While at first many of these results may seem counterintuitive, using the methods of math and economics, we can rationalize such seemingly irrational outcomes. Problems will generally be illustrated through fun and interactive examples. Examples of such topics to be covered include: Monty Hall Paradox Prisoners Dilemma Allais Paradox Price Discrimination St. Petersburg Paradox Centipede Game Possibly more time permitting. No prior knowledge of math or economics beyond basic high school algebra is required\. There will be optional readings and problem sets. This course should be of particular interest to students of math, economics, business and psychology.
