Denmark was a small country whose leaders feared for the existence of Denmark and its way of life and this fear informed how the Danes related to the Nazis, Allies, and the resistance movement. As they believed that the practicality of collaborating or being quiet was warring with an internal desire to resist. How the Danes resolved this dilemma informed the character of the Danish resistance. This course will walk you through the experience of a Dane in Nazi-occupied Denmark with the goal of understanding the obstacles and rewards of resisting the Nazis and any oppressive regime or for that matter oppression in general. This course is an experiential learning course with a light assigned reading load. As such the main requirement is coming to class willing and prepared to participate. No knowledge of World War II or Denmark is expected.
