Primary Instructor:

This studio course will introduce the beginning sculpture student to the practices of wide variety of non-traditional vernacular artists. We will draw our inspiration from the work of these artists, exploring a wide range of techniques and materials, with an emphasis on working with our hands, and using “found” or recycled materials. Projects will range from the relatively straightforward, such as a basic woodcarving, to the ephemeral, such as an environmental artwork constructed with found materials on site. This course will require an open mind, a willingness to get your hands dirty, and perhaps a little dumpster diving.
