This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental properties of poetic art. Significant attention will be paid to the interplay between written language's aural dimension, its spatial dimension, and its semantic meaning(s). The goal of the course is to teach students to appreciate and analyze poetry in its full complexity. We will focus as much or more on what poems "do" as on what they "say."
