ITALIAN 231 with a grade of C- or higher; or assignment by placement test. College or university transfer students with any prior study of Italian must take the Placement Test. Only the placement score and not language coursework completed at a previous school will determine placement.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ITALIAN 232: This course description is for the non-topics sections, specifically sections 001 through 005 . Before registering, students should be aware that sections 007,009 and 011 are special topics sections. Please read the appropriate course descriptions before registering.

This course aims at a further development of each student's speaking, reading, and writing knowledge of Italian, including increased facility in both conversation and oral comprehension. There is a continuing review of grammar within the functional use of language. Various genres of literature and journalistic prose are read and discussed. Communicative skills are emphasized through class discussions. Grading is based on regular attendance, class participation, an oral presentation, compositions, homework assignments, quizzes, speaking examination, a midterm, and a final examination.
