This lecture course covers the fundamentals of evolutionary biology with a focus on living organisms. It includes a historical survey of the development of evolutionary theory from ancient philosophers to the present, and critical examination of phylogenetic systematics, natural selection, population genetics, molecular evolution, micro evolution, and macroevolution. Weekly discussions will focus on primary literature.

Two midterm tests and one cumulative final exam will test students' knowledge of the lecture material. Writing assignment(s) based on readings from the primary scientific literature will be required.
