Since its rise in the 1950's, rock and roll has become one of the best-selling music genres. But it has also transcended its genre label, influencing fashion, film, and art, and becoming a way of life for millions of devotees world-wide. In this survey course, we will examine the evolution of rock music from its roots in the blues music of the late 40's to the widely varied and unique genre it is today. Students will learn about the various subgenres of rock music that have developed, and listen to examples of each.
