Primary Instructor:

This course will examine geographies of contemporary sexual diversity, particularly sex work, gay and lesbian populations, and transgendered concentrations. The shifting spatial distribution of sexual populations in urban areas will be situated in terms of the larger dynamics of urban life. Topics will include the early literatures on sex and cities, the relationships between urban size and sexual specialization, and the impact of de-industrialization and redevelopment on the texture of urban neighborhoods.
