South Africa's Constitution embodies the principles of the country's transformation to a constitutional democracy based on non-discrimination, from its racist, patriarchal, and deeply divided past. This course deals with both the constitution-making process and the substance of the new Constitution. It looks at different constitutional rights, their social context, and the emerging challenges facing South Africa as it tries to make the promises of the Constitution a reality.
