This class will focus on reading and writing about literature related to family life in America. Students write three essays — a close reading essay, a creative essay and an analysis — and will hone their skills as college-level interpreters of literature. Books include: Franny and Zooey and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters by J.D. Salinger; The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides, and a coursepack of selected short stories.

We will also be using the language and grammar text Woe Is I by Patricia T. O'Conner. These books should be available at Shaman Drum, as well as through most sources. The coursepack will only be available through Accu Copy on Williams.
