Which of the following do you think of when you hear the word environmentalist: Protesters chained to trees, Teddy Roosevelt in the Wild West, Leonardo DiCaprio on an iceberg, or the CEOs of Walmart and GE? Truthfully all of these different groups are part of the equation and this class will aim to reconcile how they all fit together. The class will explore how environmentalism has been presented over time, looking at changes in the movement and new perspectives on approaching the issues.

Each 50 min class will consist of a short 10-15 min lecture followed by a discussion on the topics presented in lecture and the readings. Course readings and film clips will range from excerpts from Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and McDonough and Baumgart's Cradle to Cradle to film clips from Planet Earth and Wall-E.
