Primary Instructor:

This course develops students' ability to speak, listen, read, and write Uzbek at an advanced level (in 2009-2010, this course will be offered at the third-year level). Instruction will be delivered via live video-conferencing from Indiana University through the CIC CourseShare program in which LSA participates. The classroom instructor is Malik A. Hodjaev, lecturer of Uzbek language in IU’s Department of Central Eurasian Studies. The spoken language of educated native speakers, as well as the contemporary literary language as reflected in newspapers and journals, will be emphasized throughout. This course will stress extensive practice in conversation, listening, reading, and writing, and English will be kept to a minimum. The class schedule will correspond to the IU academic calendar; therefore, the first day of class will be Aug. 31, 2009, and the final exam is on Dec. 14, 2009 (8-10am). The class will meet from 9.05-9.55am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Undergraduates must register for 4 credits, and graduate students for 3 credits. Undergraduates are required to attend all four days each week; graduate students have the option to attend Thursday sessions, which will be used for drills and review.

Prerequisite: Completion of both semesters of second-year Uzbek (AAPTIS 253 and AAPTIS 254) or the equivalent.
