Primary Instructor:

This class examines how the Pacific Islands region and its inhabitants have been systematically, even if variably, engendered and sexualized, either as effeminate beings or masculinized, when they appear to be threatened.

We will look at historical and literary texts, films, artwork, and a central analytic will be on the writings and productions by women, both White and Indigenous, in helping us foreground issues of gender, womanhood, and sexuality.
