This course is designed to further students’ skills in speaking and writing and development of vocabulary as well as increase their proficiency in reading and comprehension. A standard textbook is used, supplemented by web materials as well as CD-ROM and audio materials consisting of a sequence of graded dialogues chosen from daily conversations and Tamil movies. The course aims at increasing fluency in the use of language in different socio-cultural contexts. Ample opportunities will be given for translation (from Tamil to English and vice-versa) practice and oral presentations. The conversational materials introduced represent 25 to 30 socio-cultural contexts and situations. Evaluation is based on classroom performance, homework assignments, tests, and a final exam.
