ENGLISH 125 focuses on the creation of complex, analytic, well-supported arguments that matter in academic contexts. Students will work closely with their peers and the instructor to develop their written prose. Readings will cover a variety of different genres and academic disciplines.

In this course, we will explore the multifaceted concepts of place and identity. Assigned readings will serve as entry points into critical exploration of these topics, while providing students with material and techniques to aid them in the creation of their own essays. Analysis of published essays will improve students’ understanding of how to structure complex academic arguments. Students will engage in pre-writing activities, journaling, workshops, and revision in order to create four polished essays by the end of the course. While exploring the complex intersections between place and identity, students will develop writing skills that will aid them in their college careers regardless of which major they choose to pursue.
